About this event
Organizations are asking coaching to accomplish more than ever before.
Leaders are expected to develop people, navigate complexity, strengthen engagement, improve performance, build resilient cultures, and help people adapt to constant change. Coaching has become one of the most valuable ways organizations pursue those outcomes.
Many coaching conversations naturally focus on improving behaviors, solving immediate challenges, or achieving meaningful goals. These conversations create real value. Yet some of the most enduring transformations occur when we move beyond behavior and begin exploring the stories that shape identity.
How do we create coaching conversations that generate change people continue living long after the coaching conversation ends?
This session explores one answer through the lens of Narrative Coaching.
Participants will examine the distinction between coaching that informs and coaching that transforms, discovering when transactional coaching creates the greatest value and when a transformational approach can deepen awareness, expand agency, and support lasting change. Together, we'll explore how stories give rise to identity—and how identity shapes perception, meaning, and behavior. When coaches begin recognizing the narratives influencing what clients perceive to be real, possible, and available, coaching shifts from helping clients solve problems to helping them author new possibilities.
Participants will leave with practical narrative questions, subtle conversational shifts, and immediately applicable strategies that deepen coaching conversations while remaining fully aligned with the ICF Core Competencies.
Whether coaching executives, emerging leaders, teams, or individual contributors, attendees will gain practical ways to help clients create change that extends beyond the coaching conversation and into the way they lead, decide, relate, and grow. Coaching has always been about creating meaningful change. Narrative Coaching invites us to deepen where that change begins.
Learning Objectives:
1. Recognize when a coaching conversation is best served by a transactional approach and when it can be expanded toward transformational development.
2. Apply narrative questions and conversational shifts that help clients move beyond behavior change toward greater awareness, agency, and authorship while remaining aligned with the ICF Core Competencies.
3. Describe how story, identity, and perception influence sustainable change, strengthening coaching conversations across organizational and individual coaching contexts.
Core Competencies Addressed:
Establishes and Maintains Agreements, Cultivates Trust and Safety, Maintains Presence, Listens Actively, Evokes Awareness, Facilitates Client Growth
Participants will earn 1.5 Core Competency CCEs for attending this program.
About our Speaker:
Nobody gives us a map for becoming. That's probably why Jennie Antolak has made a career helping people navigate it. As co-founder and President of Learning Journeys – The International Center of Coaching and an ICF Master Certified Coach (MCC), Jennie has spent more than two decades coaching leaders, organizations, and coaches through the wonderfully awkward, often messy, and deeply rewarding experience of becoming. Drawing on narrative coaching, neuroscience, and human development, she helps people recognize the stories that shaped who they are, honor the wisdom those stories carried, and create space for who they are becoming. Known for blending deep insight with wit, Jennie helps people find the humor in being human—because growth is hard enough without taking
ourselves quite so seriously. Participants leave with more than new skills. They leave seeing themselves, one another, and the future differently. Jennie holds a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership and Development, a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, and believes the goal isn't simply better coaching or better leadership—it's becoming the kind of person capable of creating a future worth living into.
